  • Thursday and half of Friday: Back at SpaceX
  • The remaining half of Friday: At Tesla Design Studio, which is adjacent to SpaceX
  • Weekends: With family
On the other hand, he affirms to sleep for six to six and a half hours every day, ignores phone calls, avoids getting bogged down with emails, and, most notably, breaks his entire day into five-minute slots The last one is the secret of Elon’s time management. He breaks his entire day into five-minute slots. He schedules his everyday tasks into 5-minute slots well in advance. So he never wonders what to do next. Everything is preplanned and organised. He’s not literally breaking down his day into 5-minute slots. The idea is to break down tasks so that it’s easy to follow and track the progress. Almost all the successful companies around the world use the same strategies to get the best out of their teams. Three particular skills help you manage time effectively:
  • Awareness

    thinking realistically about your time by understanding it is a limited resource.
  • Arrangement

    designing and organizing your goals, plans, schedules, and tasks to effectively use time.
  • Adaptation

    observing your use of time while performing activities, including adjusting to interruptions or changing priorities.
So how might people best prepare themselves to become better time managers? Doing so first requires figuring out where to focus. There are the following steps you can take to prime your time management efforts.
  • Build accurate self-awareness of your time management skills.

    Doing so will allow you more time on your hands and help you manage your life overall.
  • Identify and prioritize the skill you need to improve.

    When you prioritize the work that needs the most effort, you will end up with lesser stress of other minor works.
  • Find your peak performance time.

    What we learn from Elon’s time management skills is to break your typical day into three to four time slots and, over the course of a week, categorize these slots from your most to least productive
  • Treat your time like it’s money.

    Create a time budget that shows how you spend your hours during a typical week. Categorize time into “must do’s” and “want to do’s”.
  • Try timing-up.

    Record how long you’ve spent on tasks with very clear deadlines, rather than how much time you have left.
  • Evaluate how you assess time.

    After finishing a project, evaluate how long you thought it would take and how long it actually took.
  • Take a future time perspective.

    Think about how the tasks you do today impact next week’s tasks?
